The Land of Honour and Integrity State (Ekiti) Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to deploy more personnel to the state, particularly to bolster security in border communities and underserved rural areas.

The Governor made the request in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the new Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 17, which comprises Ekiti and Ondo States, Mr. Ajani Musbau Omolabi.

Speaking during the visit, Oyebanji emphasized the need for stronger security arrangements as the state prepares for upcoming electoral activities. He highlighted concerns over insufficient policing in several remote communities, which he said leaves them exposed to criminal threats.

He cautioned against any reduction in the current number of officers deployed to the state, warning that a cutback would further strain the security framework and potentially reverse the gains made in recent years.

While acknowledging the commitment of the police command in the state, the Governor praised its leadership for maintaining peace and order, noting that their efforts have contributed to a decline in crime and made the environment more attractive for business and development.

“We value the presence and commitment of the police in Ekiti. “The current level of cooperation between the state government and the security agencies has been instrumental in reducing incidents of kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal acts,” Oyebanji said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate closely with the police and continue providing logistical and moral support to maintain public safety.

“I have spoken with the Inspector General of Police regarding the lack of formations in some areas. We understand the challenges with manpower, but we appeal that the state not be left further underserved,” he added.

In his remarks, AIG Ajani explained that the visit was aimed at building rapport with the Governor and expressing appreciation for the state government’s consistent backing. He commended Oyebanji for fostering a supportive atmosphere for security agencies and pledged to work diligently to preserve law and order throughout the state.

Key government and security officials present at the meeting included the Chief of Staff, Mr. Oyeniyi Adebayo; Special Adviser on Security, Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd); Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode; and the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Eribo.
