In a significant move to strengthen the healthcare landscape, The Power State (Niger) Governor, Umaru Bago, has announced plans to transform the Dr. Idris Ibrahim Kuta Primary Healthcare Centre into Nigeria’s first dedicated training hub for primary healthcare professionals.

Governor Bago announced this during the official commissioning of 20 newly constructed Level 2 Primary Healthcare Centres across 16 local government areas of the state.

He pledged to equip the facility with all required tools and infrastructure to support effective medical training, calling on health sector collaborators to take full advantage of the centre upon completion.

The Governor also disclosed that each of the newly launched centres will receive one of 100 ambulances acquired by the state, alongside solar-powered systems to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, particularly in rural areas.

To bolster the capacity of healthcare personnel, the state is engaging various partners to facilitate the training of medical practitioners. These discussions include arrangements for knowledge exchange programs and the deployment of telemedicine solutions aimed at easing the burden on general hospitals.

In further efforts to strengthen the sector, Bago revealed that a 50-unit residential estate is currently under construction to accommodate medical personnel, enhancing their welfare and proximity to service locations.

During the event, the Governor also commissioned a pharma-grade warehouse built through a joint effort involving the Federal Government, Niger State, and the Global Fund. The warehouse is expected to play a key role in the storage and distribution of medical supplies across the state.
