Abuja – The Federal Political Head (Minister) on Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has praised Nigeria’s Service Chiefs for what he described as two years of strategic leadership that has brought measurable improvement to national security.

He made the remarks on Thursday during an engagement with media executives and security stakeholders at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, marking the second anniversary of the Service Chiefs’ appointment.

In a message on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Idris acknowledged the commitment of the Armed Forces, saying their sacrifices continue to surpass expectations. “President Tinubu commends our Service Chiefs for their dedication, discipline, and patriotism,” he said.

The Minister noted that under the current military leadership, Nigeria has recorded major progress in the fight against insecurity. He pointed to significant improvements on major highways and a reclaiming of territories once threatened by criminal groups.“You have restored hope, saved lives, defended our sovereignty, and above all, reminded us all of what it means to serve.”

He highlighted key military achievements, including the weakening of Boko Haram and ISWAP in the North East, targeted strikes on bandit hideouts in the North West and North Central, enhanced naval patrols curbing oil theft, and sustained air raids disrupting criminal logistics.

Speaking on the role of the press, the Minister urged journalists to balance their reports by reflecting on progress as well as challenges.

“The media is expected to report not only what has gone wrong, but what is being done right. Highlight the sacrifice of our troops. Tell the story of progress. Balance criticism with context. That is the true calling of responsible journalism,” Idris stated.

Idris also reiterated the government’s support for the military, pledging sustained investment in logistics, intelligence operations, and personnel welfare.

“You have defended lives, safeguarded our borders, and restored national pride,” he said, commending the Service Chiefs for their leadership and resolve. He encouraged the media to help raise public morale by highlighting security gains.

The meeting drew senior participants including the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (represented by Major General A.T. Jibrin, (rtd); Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr. Mohammed Bulama; Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Malam Ali M. Ali; Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace; President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr Ike Neliaku; representatives of the Service Chiefs, and top editors from across the country.
