The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed an immediate investigation into claims made by a retired Superintendent of Police in a video currently circulating online, which has raised serious concerns over the treatment and benefits of police pensioners.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, from the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The IGP, according to the statement, has mandated NPF Pensions Limited to scrutinize the allegations, identify gaps if any, and initiate appropriate corrective steps.

Egbetokun emphasized that the welfare of both active and retired personnel remains a top priority. He acknowledged that former officers, having served the country diligently, deserve a pension system that respects their contributions and upholds their dignity. The IGP also stressed the need for transparent and responsive management of pension matters as a pillar of morale within the force.

He called for calm among affected stakeholders, assuring them that the police leadership is engaging with relevant agencies to ensure that the investigation leads to lasting reforms.

The statement reaffirmed the Force’s pledge to honor the service of its men and women by working toward a fair and responsive welfare framework.
