ABUJA – Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has resigned from his position as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), setting the stage for a fresh leadership transition within the ruling party.

His resignation, which takes immediate effect, was officially announced on Friday, June 27, in a statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. The statement revealed that Ganduje stepped down to attend to pressing personal matters.

In his resignation letter addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje thanked President Bola Tinubu for the trust and privilege to serve the party in such a high capacity. The letter did not provide further details about the nature of the personal matters necessitating his departure.

President Tinubu has since directed the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, to take over as Acting National Chairman. Dalori will steer the party’s affairs until the National Executive Committee (NEC) convenes to elect a substantive replacement.

Ganduje assumed the role of APC National Chairman in August 2023, following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu. During his tenure, he focused on consolidating internal unity, promoting party discipline, and expanding the APC’s reach across the country. He also played a key role in managing high-profile defections from rival parties and overseeing court victories that upheld the legitimacy of the party’s leadership.

In February 2025, his leadership received strong backing from both the party’s NEC and National Caucus, a show of confidence in his direction and achievements.

Reacting to his exit, the NWC praised Ganduje’s service, describing it as marked by dedication and purposeful leadership. The committee assured party members that the APC remains focused on delivering good governance under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
