The National Assembly has announced a seven-day extension of plenary sittings from April 29 to May 6, 2025.The Clerk of the Red Chamber (Senate), Andrew Ogbonna Nwoba and the Clerck of the Green Chamber (HoR), Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, made this known in their separate internal memorandum dated April 20, 2025, which was addressed to all Senators and House of Representatives members respectively.
It would be recalled that both the Red Chamber and the Green Chamber had adjourned plenary on Thursday, March 27, till the 29th of April to give room for members’ participation in Sallah and Easter festivities, with their constituency members.
The memo signed by Clerk to the Senate, Nwoba, reads: “Distinguished Senators, I am directed to inform you that the resumption of plenary sittings of the Senate, earlier scheduled for Monday 29th, April 2025, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 6th May 2025.
“Distinguished Senators are kindly requested to take note of this postponement while regretting any inconvenience, the change might have caused“ This postponement is made to allow Distinguished Senators, to stay with their constituents, during the International Workers’ Day public holiday, in the first week of May, and to further enhance constituency engagements.”Similarly, the Clerk of the Green Chamber (HoR), Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, disclosed that he has been directed to respectfully inform members of the house that the resumption of plenary sittings initially scheduled for Monday, 29th April 2025, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 6th May 2025.
The state read“ This adjustment is made to allow Honourable Members to remain in their constituencies during the International Workers’ Day public holiday in the first week of May, and to further deepen constituency engagements in line with the representative mandate of the House.”He said honorable Members are kindly requested to take note of the adjustment and act accordingly.
