EFCC Arrests Vote Buyers with Over N17.2m in FCT Polls

A total of N17,218,700 allegedly traced to vote trading and related offences has led to the arrest of 20 suspects in the Federal Capital Territory council elections held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The arrests were announced by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a statement on Sunday, detailing how operatives swept across the Federal Capital Territory over allegations of vote buying, vote selling and obstruction of officers during the polls.

According to the report, one of the suspects was arrested with N13,500,000 discovered in a vehicle parked beside a polling booth in the Kwali Area Council. The breakdown of the operation shows that two suspects were apprehended in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje and four in Kwali.

The Commission stated that the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
