The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the appointment of DCP Anthony Okon Placid, as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).
This information was disclosed in a release by the Nigeria Police Force, signed by Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the outgoing FPRO, on 8th March 2026.
DCP Placid, born on 2 December 1970 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, brings decades of experience in administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and studied Law at the National Open University of Nigeria.
Joining the police in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent, he was commissioned in 1998. Over the years, he has attended professional and international programs, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training and UNITAR Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding course in Kenya, earning certifications in Police Studies, Military Studies, Gender Awareness, Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law, and Civilian Protection.
DCP Placid has served in strategic positions within Nigeria and abroad, such as Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State and the Police Staff College, Chief of Training for the African Union Mission in Sudan, and Head of Training and Development for the UN Mission in Darfur. He has also held command roles including Divisional Police Officer in Federal Housing Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan, and Gembu, Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna State, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in various operational and intelligence capacities.
He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, a Commonwealth Human Rights Trainer, and an ICRC Trainer on International Humanitarian Law. A graduate of the Senior Executive Course (SEC 47) at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, he was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni) on 13 December 2025 before his redeployment to Cross River State.
