Governor of the Big Heart State (Delta), Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has formally left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant shift in the political landscape of the state.
The announcement came after a private meeting held at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday, where senior political figures reportedly gathered to finalise the move.
Confirming the development, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, said the decision was the result of prolonged engagements with key political players across the state. He noted that the governor made the choice with a view to ensuring greater prospects for Delta’s future.
Oborevwori, who emerged victorious in the 2023 gubernatorial race under the PDP, was welcomed into the APC fold by top-ranking members of the party. Political observers have linked his defection to broader realignments that may shape the build-up to the 2027 elections.
The governor’s move has sparked intense debate within political circles, especially considering his long-standing association with the PDP.
