The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed April 13, 2026, for the commencement of a nationwide voter revalidation exercise aimed at updating the register and safeguarding citizens’ voting rights.
The directive was contained in a release by the commission, which called on Nigerians who registered between 2011 and 2024 to take part in the process to confirm their details and retain their eligibility.
INEC clarified that the exercise is not a fresh registration but a verification of existing voter records across the country.
“Registered between 2011 – 2024? This is for YOU,” the statement read. “This is NOT a new registration. Confirm and Secure your voter record.”
The commission stated that the exercise will be conducted both online and at designated centres nationwide, with daily operations scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., including weekends.
Warning against non-compliance, INEC said: “No revalidation: Risk of losing your voting eligibility. Don’t wait till election day to discover your name is missing.”
It urged eligible voters to act without delay, adding: “Revalidate now… Be counted.”
