President Donald Trump on Friday announced an agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, outlining a plan for new Palestinian governance and phased Israeli withdrawal.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the US President, who said the Board of Peace reached the agreement as part of efforts to end years of conflict and stabilise the Gaza Strip.
Trump said the deal would see Hamas and other armed factions surrender their weapons in phases, clearing the way for a new Palestinian government to administer Gaza with the support of the Board of Peace. He said the arrangement is also intended to address Israel’s security concerns by preventing the territory from being used as a launch pad for future attacks.
The President said implementation would follow a structured timetable. As the disarmament process advances, Israeli troops would pull back while an International Stabilization Force and a newly formed Palestinian police service assume responsibility for maintaining security across the enclave.
Trump described the agreement as “a major milestone in the implementation of the Trump 20-Point Plan,” saying it marks progress from the war, hostage crisis and humanitarian emergency that gripped Gaza over the past year.
He praised Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye for their mediation efforts and credited his negotiating team for helping secure the breakthrough.
Trump also vowed that “The threat that emerged from Gaza on October 7 will NOT be allowed to rebuild!” He said the agreement would place Gaza under “a new Palestinian government that serves its PEOPLE.”
The US President concluded by congratulating all parties involved, describing the agreement as an achievement many believed could never be realised.
