The National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has praised President Bola Tinubu for approving the construction of a new dam in Kanke Local Government Area.
In an appreciation message released after inspecting the proposed project site with the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Utsev, Yilwatda said the dam would open fresh opportunities for agriculture, improve livelihoods and strengthen food security in Kanke and neighbouring local government areas.
He recalled that only weeks earlier, both leaders had visited the area to inaugurate the Babban Lamba–Sharam Phase II Road project, saying the latest visit reflected steady progress in bringing more Federal Government projects to the community.
“The dam will provide irrigation water to farmers in Kanke and surrounding Local Government Areas, boosting agricultural production, improving livelihoods and strengthening food security,” Yilwatda said.
Quoting the minister, the APC chairman added: “Water is life, and access to water for irrigation is critical to unlocking the agricultural potential of our communities.”
He said the Federal Government remained focused on completing the project quickly so residents could begin to enjoy its benefits.
Yilwatda described the development as “a new chapter of Federal Government presence in our communities,” pointing to ongoing construction of about 500 kilometres of Federal Government roads across Plateau State to improve links with neighbouring states, alongside investments in water, agriculture and other sectors.
He maintained that the projects reflected the Renewed Hope agenda and pledged to continue seeking more development initiatives aimed at closing infrastructure gaps across Plateau communities.
“We are deeply grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving this landmark project for Kanke,” he said.
Yilwatda also thanked the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation and his team “for their commitment to bringing the project to fruition,” while describing the traditional reception organised by the Ngas people as “a beautiful demonstration of our people’s appreciation and hospitality.”
He pledged sustained support for the administration’s development drive, saying, “We will keep pushing for development, we will keep delivering, and we will keep supporting the Renewed Hope agenda.”
