Nigeria’s disease control agency has identified two suspected Ebola cases in the North-East, with both individuals isolated pending laboratory results.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed that contact identification and listing were ongoing as laboratory investigations continued to establish whether the individuals had contracted the disease.
The agency stressed that the classification of the individuals as suspected cases does not amount to confirmation of Ebola, noting that their status would depend on laboratory findings.
It urged Nigerians to maintain proper hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and adhere to public health guidance to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
The NCDC said further updates would be provided as verified information becomes available.
The statement read ”Two suspected cases of Ebola disease have been identified in Nigeria’s North-East region. Both individuals have been isolated, contact identification and listing is ongoing, and laboratory testing is being conducted.
“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results.
“The public is advised to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities.
“Further updates will be provided as verified information becomes available.”
