The Governor of the Sunshine State (Ondo), Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has flagged off the long-awaited dualisation of the Akure–Idanre Road, marking a significant step in his administration’s drive to improve transportation and economic access in the state.

The flag-off ceremony took place at the Arakale-Oke Aro Junction in Akure on Wednesday, launching the first phase of the project, which spans 10 kilometers from Cashhold Junction to KM10 along the Akure-Idanre route.

The new road design includes dual carriageways with a width of 9.3 meters, 1.5-meter pedestrian walkways on both sides, a 3-meter utility bay, line drains, medians, and traffic lights at key intersections. It will also feature solar-powered street lighting and a pavement structure engineered to support high traffic volume.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described the project as a major stride toward the vision of a more connected and economically active Ondo State. He stressed that the Akure–Idanre Road plays a key role in linking rural agricultural hubs to urban markets and promoting tourism to sites such as the famed Idanre Hills.

“For years, this road has posed challenges to motorists and traders. Its poor condition has delayed movement and affected business. Today, we begin a new chapter,” he declared.

He assured residents that the road will be constructed to durable standards and completed within the stipulated timeframe. The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to complete all ongoing road projects, including those inherited from previous governments.

In his remarks, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Engr. Olawoye Ayorinde Abiola, praised the project’s importance in improving mobility, safety, and economic activities. He gave assurances that work would be carried out with strict attention to quality and deadlines.

The Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Gbenga Fasua, and his Idanre counterpart, Smart Omotadowa, hailed the project as a landmark development, expressing gratitude to the Governor for delivering on a key promise. They noted that the new road would ease travel, attract investment, and raise living standards.

Hon. Festus Akingbaso, who represents Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, said the project reflected responsive governance and pledged to support policies that enhance community well-being.

Mr. Marcel Alrouss, Managing Director of Roosco Construction Ltd., the firm handling the project, detailed the scope of the work, stating that the expansion will include drainage upgrades, pedestrian walkways, and safety improvements. He pledged timely delivery in line with professional standards.

Traditional leader, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, the Deji of Akure, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for backing words with action, describing the dualisation as a significant boost to the state capital’s development.
