Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who served as his vice and successor, has paid tribute to the man he described as a patriot and selfless leader deeply committed to the ideals of justice, national unity, and democratic values.

In a statement reflecting on Yar’Adua’s life and contributions, Jonathan recalled their shared aspirations for a nation where inclusiveness and fairness would shape governance. He described Yar’Adua as a man whose entire public life—whether in the classroom, as a state governor, or as Nigeria’s president was marked by integrity, diligence, and a firm respect for the rule of law.

Jonathan noted that Yar’Adua came into office with a clear mission: to heal divisions, promote national cohesion, and guide the country on a path toward peace and collective progress.

“Despite his brief tenure in office, Yar’Adua is remembered for his calm leadership style and for initiating reforms aimed at strengthening democratic governance and public trust.

“He was not just my leader, but also a friend and brother,” Jonathan wrote. He believed deeply in building a fair and inclusive society where every citizen feels a sense of belonging” he stated.

Fifteen years after his passing, Yar’Adua’s name continues to evoke admiration for his principled approach to leadership and his enduring legacy of accountability and nation-building.

Jonathan’s tribute serves as a poignant reminder of a leader who left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s democratic journey—one rooted in sincerity, humility, and an unwavering dedication to the common good.
