The Federal Government has commenced preparations to host the 4th African Union Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Forum, which will take place from June 23 to 27 in Abuja. To this end, Vice President Kashim Shettima has inaugurated an oversight committee tasked with coordinating the event, following the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during the ceremony, Vice President Shettima emphasized the administration’s ongoing efforts to open up new channels for small businesses to thrive beyond local borders. He noted that the government is committed to building strong digital frameworks that can help MSMEs access the broader African market and compete globally.

The Vice President also pointed out the significance of the informal sector, which accounts for over 83 percent of employment on the continent. He acknowledged that while Africa faces unique challenges, it is equally rich in ideas and technological talent that can reposition its economies.

“We have made reforms, committed resources, and remain determined to see results.

“But no single country or government can do this alone. That is why this forum is crucial. It offers a roadmap, a stage, and alliances that will support African MSMEs in driving the continent’s economic revival,” he said.

The upcoming forum is expected to draw participants from across Africa, including business leaders, policymakers, and development partners.
