The Sunshine State (Ondo) Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Saturday, visited Obe-Nla community in Ilaje Local Government Area to assess the progress of an ongoing 1,000-meter concrete walkway and jetty project.

The project, designed to replace traditional wooden structures common in the coastal area, will feature streetlights to improve safety and accessibility for residents. During the inspection, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the standard of work despite the challenging terrain, urging the contractors to complete the project within the expected timeframe.

The governor also used the occasion to present instruments of appointment and staffs of office to two newly recognized monarchs: Oba Ademola Akinbule, the Yasere of Oriretan, and Oba Olusola Ajaka, the Gbogunro of Idi-Ogba Alagbon, both in Ilaje Local Government Area.

Speaking at the ceremony, Aiyedatiwa said the recognition and elevation of traditional titles reflect the administration’s respect for traditional leadership structures. He recalled that on June 20, the State Executive Council approved the renaming of the chieftaincy title from Yasere of Ilepepe to Yasere of Oriretan after a detailed review.

Congratulating Oba Akinbule on becoming the first Oba of Oriretan, the governor described his appointment as a sacred responsibility and encouraged him to serve his people with dedication.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring public safety, promising continued efforts to eliminate criminal elements across communities.

Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, Maurice Oripenaye, commended the governor for the recognition of the stools and described the event as a strong affirmation of traditional leadership in the area. He also highlighted the administration’s strides in road construction, school and hospital rehabilitation, and security enhancement.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, said the ceremony demonstrated the government’s resolve to address all pending chieftaincy issues across the state.
