Former Vice President and three-time presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called for the immediate and unconditional release of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, and others arrested during and after a nationwide protest.
In a statement posted on his verified social media platforms, Atiku urged the government to end what he described as persistent harassment of dissenting voices.
“I therefore demand the immediate and unconditional release of Omoyele Sowore and all those arrested during and after the protest. This government must end its persistent harassment of dissenting voices,” he stated.
He warned that the continued clampdown on citizens exercising their rights undermines Nigeria’s democracy. “Democracy cannot coexist with tyranny,” Atiku added.
