The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Badagry Local Government Area has resolved its internal differences and renewed efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, with leaders attributing the reconciliation to divine intervention.
The development followed a meeting of party leaders and stakeholders in Badagry, Lagos State, Centre of Excellence, where strategies for rebuilding the party and strengthening unity at the grassroots were discussed.
Speaking at the gathering, the chairman of the party in the local government, Chief Kazeem Kappo, urged members to remain loyal to the party’s ideals, stressing that discipline, teamwork and sustained support from the rank and file were necessary to secure victory in future polls.
The party also used the occasion to commiserate with the people of Badagry over the death of the Akran of Badagry, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi. Chief Kappo, on behalf of the party, offered prayers for the repose of the monarch’s soul and called for peace, unity and stability across the ancient town during the mourning period.
In his remarks, the party’s secretary in the local government, Chief Olufemi Doheto Hunga, charged members of the Central Committee to intensify efforts toward rebuilding the party structure, with emphasis on planning, mobilising supporters at the ward level and sustaining internal harmony.
The vice chairman of the party, Hon. Abiodun Sewanu Gbowu, commended party executives and leaders for remaining steadfast despite recent setbacks, expressing confidence that a united PDP would regain lost ground and contest all elective positions in Badagry in 2027.
Several party elders and stakeholders attended the meeting, including Chief Olaomo Kufisile, Alhaji Alani Ajose, Chief S. S. Hunwi, and Chief (Mrs.) Bolanle Osanyinbi and Elder Benjamin Akovoyon, among others.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call by Chief Kappo for continued support from notable leaders of the party, including Hon. Gbemenu Koshoedo, Elder Philip Aivoji, the state chairman of the party, and Prince Yomi Ogungbe, as the PDP prepares for future electoral contests in the local government area.
