President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honor of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on American philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, in recognition of his enduring efforts toward global health improvement, disease eradication, and social development in Nigeria and across Africa.
The investiture took place during Gates’ visit to Nigeria, where he held talks with the President on strengthening ties in healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and agricultural support.
President Tinubu praised Gates for his decades of commitment to humanitarian causes through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, whose initiatives have significantly reduced disease, improved access to healthcare, and brought relief to underserved communities.
During their meeting, both leaders agreed on the need to deepen cooperation in public health, support for young people, and sustainable development efforts. Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s openness to partnerships that contribute meaningfully to human advancement.
Gates, whose work has influenced policy shifts and grassroots impact across the continent, continues to support Nigeria’s efforts in polio eradication, health services, and education reform.
