In a move to boost participation ahead of the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun grassroots sensitization across Osun State, starting with major religious centres in Osogbo.
Leading the initiative on Sunday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, visited the Winners Chapel along Ring Road and the NASFAT Praying Ground, where he addressed thousands of worshippers on the importance of active voter engagement.
At both locations, Dr. Agboke reiterated INEC’s commitment to open and inclusive electoral processes. He described the CVR as a crucial opportunity for citizens, especially first-time voters and those who have changed their residence, to either register afresh or update their details.
The exercise, according to the REC, will take place in two phases: a pre-Online Registration phase beginning on August 18, 2025, followed by physical registration at all INEC Local Government Area offices starting August 25.
“We must move beyond complaints and take concrete steps to influence leadership through the ballot,” Dr. Agboke said, urging worshippers to see civic responsibility as a shared national duty.
At Winners Chapel, the INEC delegation was received by church leaders who expressed readiness to assist in sharing accurate voter information within their congregation. Dr. Agboke presented the INEC Guidelines and Electoral Regulations to the State Pastor, underscoring the role of faith-based groups in democratic participation.
The visit to NASFAT was marked by a similar reception, as Dr. Agboke encouraged Muslim faithful to take ownership of the process by registering and educating others within their circles.
He stressed that such engagements are designed to tackle voter apathy and counter the spread of misinformation surrounding the electoral process.
