Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Health Institutions have commended the Governor of the Sunshine State (Ondo), Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his administration’s backing of the proposed Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital.

During a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure, on Sunday, the committee—led by its Chairman, Hon. Patrick Umoh—praised the state’s proactive steps toward the hospital’s commencement.

Governor Aiyedatiwa revealed that one of the state’s specialist hospitals has been designated as the temporary facility to support the early operations of the teaching hospital while noting that land has been allocated for the permanent site of the project.

He reassured the lawmakers of his administration’s full support toward the project’s success, describing the initiative as a timely intervention in strengthening healthcare services for residents of the state and beyond.

The Governor expressed confidence that the oversight visit would allow federal legislators to better understand the realities on the ground, enabling them to address existing gaps in healthcare infrastructure.

“This engagement is not just beneficial to governments at both levels but also to the medical community and the people who rely on these facilities,” Aiyedatiwa stated.

Hon. Umoh, in his remarks, noted that the visit forms part of the committee’s nationwide oversight responsibilities. He urged the state government to sustain its collaborative stance as the federal authorities push forward with the project.

He highlighted the importance of state-federal cooperation in realizing national health targets and reiterated the committee’s commitment to ensuring that federal medical projects are executed efficiently.

“Our mandate requires a strong partnership with states. This project in Akure is key to broadening access to quality care, and we are optimistic that with your support, it will soon be fully operational,” Umoh said.
