Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has called for the immediate establishment of a Caretaker Committee to manage the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that holding the planned National Convention amid legal disputes could deepen the party’s crisis.
Saraki made the call in a statement issued on November 12, 2025, after meeting with the Board of Trustees (BOT) Reconciliation Team led by Amb. Hassan Adamu, Wakili Adamawa. The team had visited him to seek his views on possible solutions to the current internal disputes troubling the party.
He said, “In the present circumstance, no serious politician with electoral ambition will seek to contest on the platform of the PDP, not knowing whether his or her nomination will be valid or declared null and void.”
The former Senate President argued that proceeding with the National Convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan would further polarize the PDP, describing the event as a “waste of efforts.”
He said, “It is clear that going ahead with the National Convention in Ibadan on November 15–16, 2025, will only serve to further fuel the present crisis. Therefore, going ahead with the Convention as scheduled is a waste of effort. It does not have my support. It’s not too late to find a win-win solution.”
Saraki maintained that the PDP must act swiftly to prevent further legal and political complications, stressing that the only viable path forward is to constitute a Caretaker Committee within the next two days to restore peace and stability.
He said, “My advice to the BOT team is that the only solution available to us now is for the party to set up a Caretaker Committee to steer the affairs of the party for the time being. This is the path to true reconciliation and stability of the Party. It is also the best way to give confidence to our members who intend to contest elections on the PDP platform.”
The former Senate President reaffirmed his commitment to the unity of the party, urging its leaders to prioritize dialogue and consensus over litigation in resolving internal disputes.
