Ile-Ife, Osun State — Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), one of Nigeria’s foremost federal universities, has announced a large-scale recruitment exercise, offering opportunities across a broad spectrum of academic and administrative fields.
Established in 1961 as the University of Ife, the institution was renamed in 1987 to honor the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a prominent nationalist and one of its founding visionaries. Appointments range from Graduate Assistant to Professor, depending on qualifications and experience.
Specialist institutes such as the Natural History Museum, Institute of Public Health, African Institute for Science Policy and Innovation, and Institute of Cultural Studies are also offering roles, alongside the university’s central library.
Requirements and Salary Scales
Prospective applicants must meet stipulated academic and professional standards. For academic roles, a doctorate is typically required for higher ranks, alongside a track record of teaching and published research. Entry-level positions such as Graduate Assistant and Assistant Lecturer require a Master’s degree or a Ph.D. in progress.
Salary structures for academic staff fall under the CONUASS system, ranging from approximately ₦2.3 million to ₦9.4 million per annum, depending on the role. Non-academic salaries are pegged to the CONTISS, CONMESS, and CONHESS structures, with annual remuneration starting from ₦934,000 up to ₦4.4 million.
All applicants must demonstrate digital competence. For roles requiring a university degree or HND, evidence of participation in or exemption from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is mandatory.
Administrative and Technical Roles
Non-teaching positions span various departments such as the Registry, Medical and Health Services, Technical Units, Farm and Botanical Services, and Security. Positions include System Programmers, Engineers, Legal Officers, Editors, Medical Officers, Laboratory Scientists, Technologists, Drivers, and Fire Officers.
Also on offer are roles in the university’s sports unit, accounting departments, and editorial teams. Applicants for these roles are expected to possess relevant qualifications and work experience.
