The political landscape of Agege Local Government Area in Lagos State shifted following the resignation of its Executive Chairman, Tunde Azeez, barely 100 days after assuming office.

According to information obtained from Daily Trust and Western Post Nigeria, Azeez, popularly known as Tunde Disco, stepped down over health-related issues. His letter of resignation was received and accepted by the council’s legislative arm during a plenary session held this week.

In line with the Local Government Administration Law of Lagos State, the Vice Chairman, Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, has been sworn in to serve as acting chairman. Vinod Obasa is the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.

The transition has attracted public attention, with sections of the opposition describing it as “a calculated political arrangement” influenced by the Speaker’s stronghold in the area.

“Everyone in Agege saw this coming,” one opposition figure was quoted as saying in the Daily Trust report. “The whole process was predetermined.”

Party loyalists, however, have dismissed those claims, insisting that the change of leadership was purely administrative and in line with legal provisions. Supporters maintain that Azeez’s medical condition required him to take a step back to allow continuity in governance.

Earlier in August, Azeez had temporarily handed over to his deputy before travelling for treatment, according to Western Post Nigeria. His latest resignation now makes the acting arrangement permanent unless reversed by fresh elections or directives from the Lagos State Government.

Residents of Agege have expressed mixed reactions, with some urging the new chairman to prioritise youth empowerment and community projects initiated by his predecessor.

The Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Local Government Affairs have yet to issue an official statement on the development as of press time.
