The State Government of the Centre of Excellence (Lagos) has reiterated its plan to begin full enforcement of a ban on Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) from July 1, 2025, following a 28-month stakeholder engagement.

As contained in a statement issued by Tokunbo Wahab, the Political Head (Commissioner) for Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State, the government reaffirmed its commitment to environmental preservation.

Commissioner Wahab said the state had engaged producers and marketers of SUPs extensively during this transition period, a position which was further emphasized during a courtesy visit by the management of TETRA PAK West Africa, led by its Managing Director, Mr. Haithem Debbiche.

The Political Head (Commissioner) of the Ministry described the move as a matter of responsibility, stressing that Lagos cannot afford to normalize practices that are rejected in more environmentally conscious regions. He noted that the state had provided sufficient time for adaptation, in line with global environmental standards.

“We’re not in this for applause. Our goal is to deliver results,” Commissioner Wahab stated.

He referenced the earlier ban on styrofoam products as proof that enforcement is possible when there is political will and public support.

“We’re not here to score points. We’re here to do the work. Just like with the successful enforcement of the styrofoam ban, we will insist on accountability and responsibility,” he stated.

Commissioner Wahab urged residents to support the initiative, stating that collective action remains the key to achieving a cleaner, healthier Lagos.

    This is a good move.
PENSIONERS’ under the CPS deservers increase in their monthly pay just like their colleagues under the DBS anytime there is increase in the salaries of civil servants and it results to consequential adjustment in pension. Political office holders that serves for only 8 yrs should be banned from collecting pension.
