The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 23 victims in a series of successful operations against kidnapping gangs operating in The Power State (Niger) and the Coal City State (Enugu).

The latest breakthrough came following the abduction of five persons on 20th February 2025 in Hayin-Dogo and Dangunu villages, Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.

Among those taken was Usman Daina, who regained his freedom after two days in captivity. Security forces intensified search efforts, culminating in the rescue of the remaining four victims, Deborah Daina, Gambo Amos, Cyprus Titus, and Satti Iko on 22nd May. All victims have since been reunited with their families.

In Enugu State, operatives of the state command launched coordinated operations in Uvuru-Ukpata forest, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, following reports of an attack on travelers along the Olo-Umulokpa road. The kidnappers were engaged in a gun battle during which officers overpowered them, leading to the rescue of nine hostages.

Before this, two individuals abducted on 16th May from the Ezimo community were located in a forest at Amalla-Egazi and freed by police operatives.

Further efforts on 23rd May saw officers, working in collaboration with local vigilante groups, raid a forest along the Enugu-Kogi border. A confrontation with the suspects left one of the kidnappers dead, while others fled with injuries. Eight more victims were rescued unhurt in that operation.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the courage and commitment of the officers involved, as well as the cooperation of local communities, reaffirming the Police Force’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and reduce violent crimes across the country.

The Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts.
