Public affairs analyst and social commentator, Mr. Oni Olalekan, has lashed out at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing his repeated political defections as a national embarrassment and a clear indication of personal ambition trumping ideology.

Speaking in reaction to Atiku’s recent resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Olalekan, in a statement made available to the press, said the move was “ not only predictable but shameful and emblematic of a man who has reduced politics to a game of personal ambition, devoid of ideology, values, or principles.”

“This is not the first time, nor is it the second time. It is the third time since 1999 that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is jumping ship like a desperate power seeker without compass or conviction. His inconsistency has become his only consistency,” Olalekan said.

He questioned Atiku’s credibility and loyalty, pointing out that a man who frequently switches political allegiances cannot be trusted with the future of the country.

“A man who cannot stay loyal to a political platform, who abandons the same party he once claimed to have built, and who treats political ideology like a change of clothes cannot, and must not, be trusted with the destiny of over 200 million Nigerians,” he declared.

Olalekan said the latest development reinforces Atiku’s lack of discipline and resolve, qualities he insists are essential for credible national leadership.

“What moral authority does Atiku have to speak on good governance when he cannot even govern his own political choices? What legacy does he boast of beyond serial defections, power mongering, and an insatiable thirst for the presidency at all costs?” he asked.

He also criticized those who continue to see Atiku as a viable leader, saying such views are misplaced and dangerous for Nigeria’s democratic growth.

“It is unfortunate that some still see Atiku Abubakar as a viable option for leadership. I find it laughable and tragic at the same time. His lack of political fidelity, his chronic impatience, and his legendary desperation for power make him unfit to lead even a street committee, not to mention the most populous black nation on earth,” he added.

Olalekan ended with a word of caution to Nigerians, particularly the youth, urging them to reject leaders who have no stable political ideology or loyalty.

“Nigeria cannot be entrusted to the hands of those who see politics as a transactional game. Our nation deserves committed, stable, and vision-driven leaders and not fair-weather politicians who lack the character to lead and the conscience to serve,” he warned.
