The House of Representatives will, on Tuesday, May 27, suspend regular legislative business to hold a valedictory session in honor of five members of the 10th National Assembly who died while in active service.
The session, scheduled for 11:00 am in the Green Chamber at the National Assembly Complex, is intended to reflect on the lives and legislative service of the departed lawmakers.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the House spokesperson, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., on Monday in Abuja. The statement noted that the session is captured in the Notice Paper released for the week by the Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Business, Rep. Francis Waive.
The lawmakers to be honored are:
Late Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga (Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, Ogun State), who was the immediate past Deputy Chief Whip passed away in January 2025.
Late Rep. Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga (Isa/Sabon Birni Federal Constituency, Sokoto State), died in October 2023.
Late Rep. Isa Dogonyaro (Garki/Babura Federal Constituency, Jigawa State), passed in May 2024.
Late Rep. Olaide Adewale Akinremi (Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Oyo State), died in July 2024.
Late Rep. Ekene Abubakar Adams (Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna State), passed in July 2024.
Family members of the deceased, political leaders and other dignitaries are expected to attend the session. Proceedings will include tributes from the Speaker, principal officers, party leaders, and colleagues, as outlined in the agenda circulated by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria.
The House described the deaths as a significant loss, stating that each of the late members played a role in shaping the legislative direction of the current Assembly through their contributions on the floor and in committee work.
Lawmakers are expected to observe moments of silence, deliver personal reflections, and participate in ceremonial activities consistent with the traditions of the chamber.
As the 10th Assembly approaches its midterm point in June, the session is seen as an occasion for remembrance and recommitment to the responsibilities of public service.
Members of the public are invited to follow the session through the official broadcast and online platforms of the House of Representatives.
