The Nigeria Police Force has begun disciplinary proceedings against six officers, including a Chief Superintendent of Police, following public outrage over a viral video capturing acts of extortion along the Benin bypass.
The officers were summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where they appeared before the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The IGP described their conduct as disgraceful and unacceptable, stressing that such behavior tarnishes the image of the Force.
The Police leadership has initiated formal disciplinary processes. Queries have been issued, and the implicated Inspectors are currently undergoing orderly room trials.
This move comes amid growing public demand for accountability within the ranks of law enforcement. The Force maintains that it will not shield any personnel found guilty of misconduct and is committed to restoring public trust through decisive action.
The authorities have encouraged citizens to continue reporting abuses, assuring that all complaints will be thoroughly investigated and addressed.
