State of the Centre of Excellence (Lagos) Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended a young artisan, Irinsanmi Imisioluwa Eunice, for her remarkable dedication to craftsmanship after receiving a custom-made crocheted jacket from the 23-year-old.
The handcrafted piece, presented to the governor in Lagos, was the result of 168 hours of painstaking work involving over 20,000 stitches and six different yarn colours, all produced using a single crochet hook.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the gift as more than just a display of talent but a testament to the perseverance and creative drive of young people in the state.
“Eunice’s journey began in her early years when she first learned to crochet in primary school. Although she once aspired to become a doctor, her career path shifted over time. She later pursued studies in Home Economics, and during the COVID-19 lockdown, she turned her focus fully to her passion for crafting,” he revealed.
In his remarks, the governor used the moment to encourage young creatives across Lagos to remain committed to their skills and aspirations, noting that their contributions are a key part of the state’s social and cultural development.
“Your hands, your skills, your ideas and your dreams matter. They contribute significantly to the progress we are building together in Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He thanked Eunice for the thoughtful gesture and assured her that he would wear the handcrafted jacket with pride.
The recognition of Eunice’s work highlights the growing acknowledgment of creative talent in Lagos and reinforces the state’s message of support for youth engagement in arts and crafts.
