The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., and will be held at Conference Room 231, New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The committee has extended invitations to education professionals, civil society organizations, development partners, and members of the public to contribute to the deliberations. The engagement is part of efforts by the House to open up the legislative process and ensure that sector-specific reforms reflect broad stakeholder input.

The proposed legislation includes:

1. A Bill to Establish the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition, Hawul, Borno State (HB.1797) – This bill seeks to create a specialized institution offering full-time programs in technology, applied sciences, arts, humanities, social sciences, and management.

2. A Bill to Amend Section 3(2)(b), Second Schedule, and Section 31 of the Federal Polytechnics Act, Cap F17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 (HB.1413) – The amendment addresses key structural provisions of the existing act governing federal polytechnics.

3. A Bill to Further Amend the Federal Polytechnics Act, Cap F17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 (HB.2114) – This proposal focuses on a review of the statutory functions of polytechnic institutions in line with national development objectives.

Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Fuad Kayode Laguda, emphasized that the public hearing represents a strategic opportunity for all stakeholders to engage constructively with lawmakers on the future of technical education in the country. He reaffirmed the House’s resolve to strengthen legal frameworks that support skills development, productivity, and youth empowerment.
