President Bola Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s status as a multiparty democracy while affirming that the All Progressives Congress (APC) stands out for its performance since taking office nearly two years ago.
President Tinubu made the affirmation while addressing party stakeholders, National Working Committee Members, lawmakers, and 22 state governors under the Progressives Governor’s Forum, at the APC Renewed Hope Agenda Summit at the State House Conference Centre. The summit, organized to assess the administration’s progress, ended with a unanimous endorsement of Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga revealed that Tinubu used the opportunity to highlight the administration’s efforts in reforming the economy and addressing long-standing national challenges.
“We are not building a one-party state. But Nigerians are naturally aligning with the APC because they recognize progress. People won’t stay on a sinking ship,” Tinubu said.
He also reaffirmed Nigerians’ constitutional right to political association and thanked the Federal Executive Council, party leaders, and the National Assembly for supporting his administration’s policy direction.
President Tinubu listed several key areas where his administration has made gains: restoring economic growth, rebuilding public trust, enhancing security, and fighting corruption. He pointed to the EFCC’s recovery of hundreds of assets and the crackdown on currency speculators as evidence of progress.
“The tough decisions we’ve made are painful but necessary. You can’t build a prosperous future by mortgaging your children’s tomorrow. These steps are yielding results,” he noted.
Among his administration’s achievements, Tinubu cited the elimination of multiple exchange rates and ongoing tax reforms aimed at stimulating investment and job creation.
The summit saw a resounding show of support from party leaders with Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, moving a motion endorsing Tinubu for re-election, and seconded by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas also backed Tinubu, praising his leadership and affirming their support for his 2027 bid.
APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje confirmed Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the next presidential election. He urged unity within the party and encouraged grassroots mobilization to fulfill the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The summit concluded with a sector-by-sector review of government performance, covering healthcare, infrastructure, and national security.
