President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for winning the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, praising the team for ending the tournament on a strong note after a tense third-place match decided by penalties.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Nigeria defeated seven-time champions Egypt in a penalty shootout after regulation time, a contest in which the Super Eagles held the upper hand. The victory came days after the team lost their semi-final clash to hosts Morocco on penalties.
President Tinubu said the players once again showed the determination, persistence and can-do spirit linked with Nigeria, noting that they refused to allow the semi-final setback to define their campaign.
“Despite their good run during the tournament, the Eagles lost the semi-final match to Morocco during the penalty shootout last Wednesday, and our people’s hopes of winning the championship were dashed.
“Our players remained undaunted, and exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off.
“We will all be proud of them as they receive their hard-earned bronze medal on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco.
“Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold.”
