The First Lady of the Giant of Africa (Nigeria), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for a united national effort to tackle malaria, describing it as a pressing health emergency facing the country.
In a message shared to mark World Malaria Day 2025, Senator Tinubu emphasized the urgency of reversing Nigeria’s alarming malaria statistics as the country continues to carry the highest burden of the disease globally, with millions of lives affected each year.
This year’s theme, “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” underscores a renewed push to fight the disease through increased support for preventive measures, greater public awareness, and strengthened collaboration across sectors.
“We are reminded that malaria is not just a public health challenge but a national emergency,
“We must renew our commitment to life-saving efforts and intensify awareness across all communities” Senator Tinubu stated.
She highlighted the importance of maintaining clean surroundings, urging citizens to eliminate stagnant water sources that serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Senator Tinubu appealed to government institutions, civil society organizations, the private sector, and health professionals to join forces in confronting the disease head-on.
“The end of malaria begins with us—our voices, our choices, and our actions,” she said.
World Malaria Day is observed annually on April 25 to draw attention to the global fight against malaria and to mobilize resources and support for affected communities.
