The State of Harmony (Kwara) Government has ordered the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, both located in Ilorin West Local Government Area, following incidents of student unrest.

The directive was issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, at the ministry’s headquarters in Ilorin.

In a statement, the commissioner clarified that the suspension of academic activities affects all students except those currently sitting for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE). Teachers and candidates involved in the examinations will be permitted entry strictly for the duration of the exams.

Dr. Olohungbebe emphasized the need for all examination candidates to carry valid identification cards when coming to the school premises. He also appealed to parents and guardians to ensure their children remain at home during this period, unless they are participating in the exams.

He warned that any student found flouting the directive would be apprehended by security personnel deployed to enforce the order.
