Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, Mr. Ogunjimi described the Police Force as a cornerstone of national security and emphasized the need for sustained funding to help the Force fulfill its constitutional duties.

He reaffirmed the responsibility of his office in managing public funds and stated that deliberate efforts would be made to ensure that the Police receive the financial backing required to respond to today’s security realities. According to him, no nation can build an effective security system without consistent investment in its law enforcement agencies.

“The Nigeria Police remains the frontline agency in maintaining peace within our borders. They deserve every support they can get to perform optimally,” Ogunjimi said.

The Inspector-General of Police, in his response, welcomed the pledge and expressed appreciation for the visit. IGP Egbetokun stated that the Police have continued to face significant financial challenges in executing their mandate, noting that such visits help bridge the gap between security operations and fiscal management.

He acknowledged the role of the Office of the Accountant General in ensuring financial discipline across the public sector and expressed confidence that this renewed partnership would mark a turning point for police funding and resource allocation.

“We are ready to serve, but we need the means to do so effectively,” the IGP said.

He also restated the Police Force’s commitment to ensuring public safety, adding that a well-supported and motivated police system is essential to meeting the expectations of Nigerians.

The meeting, held at the IGP Smart Conference Room, was attended by members of the Force Management Team and senior officials from both offices. It is expected to open up fresh avenues for collaboration between the Police and the financial management arm of the Federal Government.
