Officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) have been deployed to remove large heaps of refuse dumped indiscriminately by some residents along road verges and medians. The operation is aimed at improving the environment and protecting the health of those living and working in the area.

The Political Head (Commissioner) in the state’s Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, expressed concern over the disregard for public hygiene, warning that those found culpable of illegal dumping will be prosecuted.

He called on residents to take greater ownership of their surroundings, stressing that the responsibility of keeping Lagos clean rests on everyone.

“Work is currently ongoing along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, where LAWMA officials are clearing massive piles of refuse dumped indiscriminately by some residents. This exercise is part of our renewed effort to restore sanity, ensure cleaner highways, and protect public health.

“Dumping refuse on road verges, medians, and public spaces is unlawful and deeply irresponsible. Offenders will face the full weight of the law.

“A clean city is a shared responsibility. Let’s do better – for Lagos, for ourselves, and the future we all hope to build,” Commissioner Wahab stated.
The cleanup along the Lagos-Badagry corridor is expected to continue over the coming days, with monitoring teams keeping a close watch to prevent a recurrence.
