ABUJA — The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has urged the Constitution Review Committee to give attention to increased funding, improved training, and better welfare for police officers across the country.

Speaking during a meeting with the committee at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, Egbetokun noted that the demands on the Nigeria Police Force have grown significantly and must be matched with adequate legislative backing and resource allocation.

The committee, led by Dr. Mabel Aderonke, visited the police leadership as part of its consultations with security agencies ahead of the upcoming National Constitution Review Summit slated for June 17, 2025. Discussions at the meeting focused on identifying areas in the current constitutional framework that require adjustment to support national security objectives.

Dr. Aderonke acknowledged the complex challenges facing law enforcement and assured the police leadership that the committee is committed to engaging constructively with all relevant agencies. She said the views shared by the police will contribute meaningfully to the review process.

The Constitution Review Summit is expected to draw representatives from various sectors, including the military, police, civil society, and the legislature, as part of ongoing efforts to reshape Nigeria’s legal and governance structure.
