In a renewed clampdown on environmental violations, six individuals were arrested Wednesday evening for illegally dumping waste on the road median along Old Abeokuta Expressway, opposite the Total filling station in Agege.
The arrest was carried out by a combined team of officials from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) brigade during a routine surveillance operation.
The suspects, identified as Khalifa Mohammed (21), Sanusi Bello (20), Monsuru Salisu (38), Uzor Michael (19), Michael Obi (55), and Ajoke Shobande (31), were caught red-handed while offloading refuse in a restricted public space.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed that the suspects will be prosecuted in line with Lagos State environmental laws.
The operation reflects the state’s broader strategy to enforce environmental discipline and sustain cleanliness across all local government areas.
Lagos State Government continues to urge residents to make use of designated waste bins and adhere to laid-down procedures for refuse disposal, as the government will not tolerate activities that compromise public health or the city’s aesthetics.
