The State of the Living Spring (Osun) chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, describing him as a son of the soil and declaring full support for his re-election in 2027.

This decision was part of a communiqué issued at the end of a leadership caucus meeting held at the Government House in Osogbo on July 21, 2025. The document followed what the party described as “extensive consultations, debates, surveys, and opinion sampling” across various stakeholders in Osun State.

Quoting the communiqué, the caucus stated: “That the PDP in Osun State recognizes the fact that Osun State is the ancestral home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which makes the President the son of Osun State. Therefore, the PDP in Osun State hereby adopts, and endorses President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.”

The party also reaffirmed its full support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, approving his candidacy for a second term in office in the 2026 governorship election under the PDP platform. “That PDP in Osun State reaffirms its adoption and endorsement of Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election in the 2026 governorship election on the platform of the PDP,” the communiqué read.

In response to recent speculations surrounding a potential defection of Governor Adeleke to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party leadership declared that such a move was never initiated by the governor and has faced resistance from within the APC itself.

According to the caucus, “the majority of the members of the APC in Osun State are opposed to the idea of the defection of Governor Adeleke to the APC, which did not originate from the governor in the first instance.” The statement accused some APC leaders of hostility and of launching media attacks against Adeleke.

While acknowledging the loyalty of PDP members to the governor, the caucus noted that many were not in favour of a defection to the APC but were only willing to follow Adeleke out of allegiance. It further stressed that both the PDP and the Adeleke-led administration remain widely accepted among the Osun electorate.

The meeting concluded with a firm directive: “That Governor Ademola Adeleke and all members of the PDP in Osun State should remain in the PDP.”
