State Governor of the Centre of Excellence (Lagos), Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled a new policy roadmap aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment across the state.

The initiative, announced on Monday, is designed to address systemic barriers that hinder the active participation of women in various sectors of the economy. Tagged the Lagos State Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy Roadmap, the plan outlines a broad range of targeted interventions to support women from diverse backgrounds, including entrepreneurs, students, professionals, and women with disabilities.

According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the development of the policy followed an extensive consultation process involving stakeholders from the public and private sectors, civil society organisations, and grassroots women’s groups. Their contributions, he said, played a significant role in shaping a policy that reflects the realities and aspirations of women across the state.

“This roadmap is a practical plan built around the lived experiences of women across Lagos, from entrepreneurs and farmers to students and professionals. It focuses on removing the barriers that continue to limit women’s economic participation,” he said.

The document outlines key strategies in areas such as agriculture, business, education, and STEM-related fields, all aimed at improving access to resources, skills training, financing, and employment opportunities for women.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the state government would work closely with all sectors to ensure the implementation of the plan, reiterating his administration’s belief that empowering women directly contributes to the overall growth and stability of Lagos.

“When women thrive, Lagos thrives,” the governor stated.
