President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
The extension takes effect from August 31, 2025, the date his initial tenure was expected to end.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the presidency said the move is aimed at allowing Mr. Adeniyi to complete ongoing reforms and key initiatives of the Tinubu administration.
Among the projects listed for consolidation are the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
President Tinubu praised Mr. Adeniyi’s “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” expressing confidence that the extended tenure would help strengthen the Customs Service in its core responsibilities of trade facilitation, revenue collection, and safeguarding the nation’s borders.
