Badagry, Lagos — Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday commissioned seven newly completed roads covering over 16 kilometres across Badagry Local Government Area and Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), reinforcing his administration’s commitment to equitable development across the state.

According to the Governor, the commissioned roads, spanning more than eight communities, are designed to improve access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities, and key cultural and historical landmarks.

Among the projects is the Samuel Ekundayo-Toga Road, which has been expanded from a single lane to a dual carriageway with drainage infrastructure to address perennial flooding. The upgraded road is expected to ease vehicular movement along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and decongest traffic around Limca, Ibereko, and the Badagry Roundabout.

Also completed is the reconstruction of Hospital Road, a critical route providing access to notable landmarks such as Agbalata Market, the First Storey Building in Nigeria, and the Heritage Museum.

Speaking on the commissioning, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the projects as part of a broader effort to deepen development beyond urban centres. “Our goal is simple: no part of Lagos should feel left behind. We are pushing development deeper into our communities and not just the city centres,” he said.

He acknowledged that some areas, particularly Oko Afo, Ilogbo, Eremi, and Pota, are still awaiting road infrastructure improvements, assuring residents that ongoing works would be completed in due course. “I appreciate the patience of the residents. We are committed to seeing it through,” the governor said.

Highlighting the strategic importance of Badagry, Sanwo-Olu said, “Badagry holds deep economic and cultural significance not just for Lagos, but for Nigeria. As a gateway to five West African countries, it has the potential to become a major hub for tourism and cross-border trade.”

He added that beyond physical infrastructure, the road projects are intended to unlock economic opportunities and enhance the quality of life in underserved communities. “Good infrastructure goes beyond roads and bridges. It creates access, opens up opportunity, and gives communities a stronger foundation to grow.”

The Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Peter Ajose, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for the initiative, describing the completed roads as a milestone achievement in grassroots development.

He said, “The newly constructed roads are a bold statement of inclusive governance and a direct investment in the future of our communities.”

Hon. Ajose also noted that the improved road network would ease transportation, improve connectivity, stimulate local commerce, create job opportunities, enhance security, and elevate the general well-being of residents.

On behalf of the council, the Chairman expressed appreciation to the governor for what he described as a significant step in strengthening infrastructure across rural and semi-urban parts of the state.
