The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has declared a nationwide red flag alert on its tactical and intelligence units.

According to the Corps, it was in response to the wave of vandalism and sabotage of critical infrastructures in the country.

The NSCDC warned that anyone found guilty would be prosecuted, as such acts reduce government revenue, endanger national security and threaten public safety.

The Corps disclosed that, in 2025, the country had witnessed widespread destruction across key sectors, including oil and gas, transport, power, and telecommunications, thereby threatening economic stability and exposing communities to environmental hazards.

Emphasis was on the escalating sabotage of telecommunications facilities, regarded as the backbone of banking services, emergency response, education, and healthcare delivery.

Figures released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had operators recording about 1,100 fibre cuts, 545 cases of site access denial, and 99 incidents of equipment theft every week in 2025.

The Corps reiterated its commitment to protecting national assets, assuring that surveillance has been intensified to track down vandals and make them face the law.
