The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Interior, has approved lifetime salary pay for Officers retiring from the rank of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General.
This was disclosed today by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
He said the new welfare package, recently approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was designed to reward decades of service and increase morale among senior personnel across the Ministry’s agencies.
Speaking at the 2025 Ministerial Retreat in Abuja, Minister Tunji-Ojo also announced that over 50,000 officers had been promoted in the last two years, thereby putting an end to years of stagnation in the service. He further explained that a structured training programme has been developed to guide officers’ professional growth, while promotion will now be strictly tied to performance and competence.
The Minister also revealed plans for a Fire Academy of international standard, modeled to match training facilities in advanced countries. He noted that mental health had become a key priority in the Ministry’s workplace policy, with measures being put in place to support officers.
Minister Tunji-Ojo praised President Tinubu for backing wide-ranging reforms in the Interior Ministry, insisting that the Renewed Hope Agenda is already yielding results across all its agencies.
