The State of the Living Spring (Osun) has reinforced its dominance in the ongoing voter registration exercise, staying well ahead of Lagos in the latest figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

As of September 7, 2025, Osun posted 518,635 registrations, while Lagos trailed with 440,647. Ogun secured the third spot with 348,217.

This fresh data underscores a trend that first emerged in earlier updates when Osun surprisingly overtook bigger states. Despite Lagos’ larger population, it continues to trail Osun in the ongoing exercise.

INEC figures also show that nationwide, 3,544,850 Nigerians have pre-registered online since the commencement of the process on August 18, while 288,614 have completed both online and physical registration. Youths remain the most active, with 74.64 per cent of those registered falling between 18 and 34 years. Students alone accounted for 39.55 per cent.

Borno, Kaduna, Kebbi, and the Federal Capital Territory also feature prominently on the state-by-state list, while Ebonyi and Enugu remain at the bottom with fewer than 2,000 registrations each.

INEC’s National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, who chairs the Information and Voter Education Committee, urged citizens who are eligible to take advantage of the window. He also restated the Commission’s warning against underage registration.

“Only Nigerians who are 18 years and above are eligible. It is illegal for anyone to encourage underage registration in anticipation of the 2027 general election,” Olumekun said.
