The Nigeria Police Force has disclosed that 322 suspected rapists and 260 alleged kidnappers were among 4,383 suspects apprehended nationwide between July 31 and September 23, 2025.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamín Hundeyin, following a strategic conference held by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, with senior officers in Abuja.
According to the IGP, the arrests also included 481 suspected armed robbers, 371 persons linked to murder or culpable homicide, 161 for unlawful possession of firearms, 375 suspected cultists, and 2,413 others for various crimes. He added that 716 firearms, 21,238 rounds of ammunition, and 212 vehicles were recovered during the period, while 1,138 kidnapped victims regained freedom.
Speaking at the meeting attended by Assistant Inspectors-General and Commissioners of Police, Egbetokun noted improvements in police command posture and tactical responses since July, stressing that these had boosted public confidence and led to operational gains. He urged senior officers to sustain intelligence-driven policing and demonstrate visible leadership in confronting emerging threats.
Looking to the last quarter of 2025, the police chief directed zonal and state commands to intensify highway patrols, secure feeder routes and forest corridors, and strengthen community engagement, particularly during the “Ember Months” which traditionally record higher crime rates.
The conference ended with a pledge by senior officers to reinforce crime prevention measures and maintain stronger presence across the country in the months ahead.
