The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) declared a two-week national warning strike set to commence at midnight on October 13, 2025.
In its announcement, it claimed that the move came after the completion of the 14-day notice it provided to the Federal Government on September 28, 2025. The union also mentioned that no serious action was taken to resolve its concern or halt the enforcement of its resolution.
The union clarified that the decision, backed during its recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, will be complete and thorough.
ASUU has repeatedly criticized the government for failing to uphold agreements made in earlier negotiations, asserting that the strike is a final measure to highlight unresolved issues in the university system.
The statement reads: “Compatriots of the Press, it is evident that nothing concrete has been done to halt the implementation of the resolution reached by ASUU-NEC to embark on a two-week warning strike following the expiration of the 14-day notice issued on 28th September 2025.
“Accordingly, all ASUU branches are hereby directed to withdraw their services effective from midnight on Monday, 13th October 2025.
“This warning strike, as resolved at the last NEC meeting, shall be total and comprehensive.”
