Oyo State will host Nigeria’s Falconets when they face Senegal’s Lioness of Teranga in a 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying match scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Ibadan.
The disclosure was contained in a statement from the Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports, issued by the Commissioner, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, and made available to journalists in Ibadan through the ministry of information.
Adegoke said the state earned the hosting right following its handling of last year’s Falconets’ qualifier against Rwanda at the Lekan Salami Stadium, a match she said further underlined Oyo’s capacity to stage international fixtures.
Recalling the convincing win over Rwanda, which drew praise for the stadium’s facilities and match organisation, the commissioner expressed optimism ahead of the Senegal encounter.
“The Lekan Salami Stadium has continued to serve as a fortress for our national teams, and we are confident the Falconets will make the nation proud,” she said.
Adegoke assured fans, football stakeholders and the global football community of tight security arrangements, smooth logistics and an engaging matchday experience. She added that the Falconets are expected to arrive in Ibadan on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, ahead of the qualifier.
She urged football supporters across the state to troop out in large numbers to cheer the national side as they push for a place at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
